The scope of scientific and research activity
  • The Department conducts research in the field of:

    • Vibration and stability tests of periodically heterogeneous plate strips on the substrate
      heterogeneous – development of a model based on the displacement method,
      allowing to calculate the natural frequency and non-uniform critical force
      a strip (or beam) resting on a non-uniform elastic foundation.
    • Investigation of heat conductivity and thermal stresses in periodic media
      two-layer – development of a model to calculate the distribution
      temperatures and displacements in such media.
    • Study of free vibrations of bars with a variable cross-section – model development
      allowing to calculate the natural frequency of variable columns and beams
      sectional, full and hollow.
    • Strength and structural testing of innovative construction products, including
      CFR and GFRP bars as additional and main reinforcement of lightweight reinforced concrete structures
      blocks with the addition of mineral fillers as an innovative product
      meeting WP 2021 on building partitions.
    • Opportunity research
      the use of incremental mortars in the waterproofing of concrete structures,
      positive and negative pressure, the effect of liquid media on the structure
      made of concrete.
      Radon diagnostics in the aspect of the implementation of the EU Directive
      2013/59 / EURATOM of 5 December 2013. Dr hab. Inż. M. Dohojda as a member
      the advisory team at the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, I represent the Warsaw University of Life Sciences
      as one of the five units in Poland qualified for the first measurements
      comparisons of the average annual radon concentration in buildings.
    • Research on material and construction solutions for residential buildings,
      livestock and storage facilities located in Polish certified
      organic farms. Searching for links between ecological production
      food and ecological construction.
    • Investigation of the possibility of using fly ash from thermal conversion
      sewage sludge for the production of normal concrete, taking into account the impact
      on the natural environment.
    • Research on the impact of the location of livestock buildings on energy yield
      utility, the impact of the insulation of partitions on the demand for utility energy
      in livestock buildings.
    • tests of aluminum composites with mineral and organic materials
      and the possibility of using them in housing and livestock construction
    • Research related to corrosion protection of ordinary concretes
    • Research related to new, so-called general (extended), average,
      non-assymptotic mathematical models for problem analysis
      dynamics and stability of thin, linear-elastic cylindrical shells having
      micronized structure in one or two directions tangent to the surface
      middle shell. Studies on the effect of cell size and the effect of differences between
      elastic and inertial properties of components in a cell on the frequency of vibrations
      own, propagation of displacement waves and to critical forces.
    • Analysis of the influence of cell size and the influence of differences between properties
      elastic and inertial components in a cell on the natural frequency and
      propagation of displacement waves in thin uniperiodic shells
    • cylindrical.
Research projects
  • SERVICE ACTIVITY:

    The Department of Mechanics and Building Structures has a modern Laboratory
    Construction, where the following are performed:

    • tests of physical properties of materials used in construction,
    • material strength tests,
    • designing normal and special concretes,

    (determining the components of the concrete mix for a given strength class, taking into account
    ready concrete mix requirements, taking into account the requirements for concrete, determining the method
    performance of ordinary concrete, testing of special concretes – hydrotechnical).

    CONSTRUCTION LABORATORY TESTS:

    • AGGREGATES (natural and artificial): physical characteristics (grain size examination, examination
      organic and foreign pollutants, testing the content of clay particles and
      mineral dusts, bulk and volume density testing, moisture testing,
      study of volumetric changes, determination of aggregate susceptibility to disintegration); features
      strength (compressive strength test)
    • BINDERS (Portland and metallurgical cements): physical properties of binders (time marking
      binding, determining the bulk density, determining the correct amount of water for
      obtaining the standard consistency, determination of the change in volume, determination of shrinkage)
      strength characteristics (compressive and bending strength test) – determination
      cement grade
    • CONCRETES physical properties of concretes (consistency test, performance test
      volumetric trial batch, testing the porosity of the compacted concrete mix,
      test of apparent density of concrete mix, test of water absorption by weight,
      concrete moisture tests), concrete strength characteristics (test
      compressive and tensile strength), non-destructive testing of concrete quality
      (sclerometric and concreteoscope)
    • MORTAR (fresh and hardened): physical characteristics of mortars (study
      air content in the mortar, test of shrinkage during the hardening period of the mortar,
      test of mortar adhesion to the substrate) mortar strength characteristics (test
      compressive and tensile strength)
    • CERAMIC AND SILICATE PRODUCTS (bricks, hollow blocks, roof tiles, wall tiles and
      floor):

    physical characteristics (testing the external characteristics of products, weight testing, testing
    water absorption, moisture test) strength characteristics (test of resistance to
    compression and bending)

    • WOOD PRODUCTS AND WOOD LIKE MATERIALS: physical characteristics
      (tests of geometrical features, test of specific mass, test of humidity, test
      water absorption, swelling test), strength characteristics (test of resistance to
      tearing, bending, compression and shear)
    • REINFORCING AND STRUCTURAL STEEL: (determination of characteristics
      material, checking the tear and compression strength characteristics,
      bending and twisting, checking riveted and welded connections, checking
      the type of reinforcement, checking the diameter of the bars, checking the shape of the bars,
      checking the welding characteristics)
    • HEAT AND HUMIDITY PROPERTIES OF BUILDING MATERIALS
      INCLUDING MULTILAYER COMPOSITES: (conducting research in various
      thermal and humidity conditions, determination of moisture and temperature distribution in
      materials and composites, determination of thermal conductivity parameters and
      humidity of the tested samples)

    BASIC MEASURING EQUIPMENT LABORATORY
    CONSTRUCTION: Endurance machines with a set of accessories
    (compensators for cubic and cylindrical samples, inserts for splitting samples
    cylindrical and cubic, inserts for bending and pressing cement mortar samples,
    inserts for bending concrete and reinforced concrete beams);

    – Hydraulic testing machine H 011 Matest, measuring range for compression 75¸1500
    kN, tensile, 50-250 kN Device class A
    – Modernized WK-1 hydraulic press with TC 4 type strain gauge head with range
    compressive strength 3N300 kN class A, the second measuring range 150¸1500 kN
    – Modernized hydraulic testing machine ZD-40, measuring range on
    tensile and compression 8¸400 kN equipped with a hydraulic pressure sensor and gauge
    digital ZEP WN type CL 300
    – Modernized mechanical testing machine ZD-2.5 for tensile forces and
    with a measuring range of 2¸25 kN with the measuring head ZEP WN type CL14 i
    digital meter ZEP WN type CL 300

    Equipment for non-destructive testing:

    – Electronic Schmidt DIGI SMIDT 2000 hammer type N Proceq for concrete quality testing
    – UNIPAN type concreteoscope for testing the quality of concrete
    – ELE resonant frequency meter for the determination of elastic constants

    – UNI 2 GANN portable hygrometer to determine air humidity and temperature,
    depth and surface moisture of building materials and temperature
    surface of solids
    – Laboratory TDR meter for testing humidity, temperature, salinity and pressure
    matrix of porous materials

    A two-section climatic chamber in one housing for simulating thermal and
    humidity and for storing concrete samples in the maturing process.
    The volume of each chamber is 700 liters. Measuring ranges: left chamber temperature + 1 ° C to
    + 45 ° C ± 0.5 ° C humidity: from ambient level to 95% ± 3%, right chamber temperature –
    30 ° C to + 30 ° C ± 0.5 ° C.

    Apparatus used in concrete technology:

    – Vicat apparatus for determining the beginning and end of concrete mix setting
    – apparatus for determining the air content in the concrete mix
    – Ve Be apparatus and Granville apparatus for determining the consistency of concrete mix
    – Abramska drop cones and a table for testing the flow of concrete mix
